RE: Still too high

You say you have 9" across the length of the trailer, but you don't have to raise it 9" to get it level it will probably be closer to 4.5". An axle flip is one of the easiest and safe ways to get some clearance. As long as you are able to keep it to 13.5' or less. You may need to get an entrance step to make up the difference in height.

RE: Fixed my brakes!

Something I do with the Jordan is once I enter the highway, I turn the braking to the max. I dont want partial braking in the event of an emergency or have to remember to reach down and crank it up. Once back on city streets, just make the adjustment again. There isnt too much difference, but I do use slightly lower output when not on the highway.
You really don't want your trailer brakes to lock under any emergency situations. You achieve max stopping ability at the threshold of locking. But stopping and control go out the window once the brakes lock up. Screeching tires only give the impression of stopping quickly.

RE: Lowering Dexter Axle on Jayco 5er

You have had this question out there for a while with no response, so here is my 2 cents worth. Here are two things you could try:
1. Get another nut but this time go with grade 8 instead of what Dexter is selling you.
2. Use a sledge hammer as a bucker (tape a short piece of sturdy pipe, that is large enough to slip over the nut and bolt end, to the head of the sledge) hold it in place and drive the shoulder of the bolt through the bracket with a second hammer.

RE: air brakes

I have seen this topic posted on diesel place forum. As far as exhaust brakes. They are worthless on an allison. Use tow/haul to do your braking. My 2 cents.
I will have to say that you are mistaken. I have a C4500 with the D/A combo it came with the factory exhaust brake and I can really tell the difference in braking when it is on. You do want to use tow/haul mode to get the converter lockup however. (on the 4500 it is in tow/haul all of the time and is not switchable)

RE: A story and a question????

You just found the problem with buying out of town--you may get it fixed in town at a Keystone dealer or you may not. Ask and you will find out. They are not obligated to work on units they didn't sell. Not much profit in it.
Wow I guess when you move you have to sell your camper as well?

RE: 3-axle trailers

I let the center axle stay on the ground. It seems to work fine.
You may want to reconsider this practice if the site is off level a bit more than you are used to. While the center wheel will drop down if the other two wheels are raised. If they are raised high enoungh (not as far as you might think) the center wheel will come off the ground or have very little weight on it.

RE: rv plug gets loose at permanent camp site

If you want to tighten the plug in the outlet simply spread the conductors. What I am refering to is to spread the prongs themselves. If you look very closely you will notice that good quality A/C plug prongs are made by folding a thin piece of metal versus being a solid piece. If you have the folded metal type prong you can insert a thin knife (being very careful not to get cut) in between the folded metal. Thus expanding the prong to look something like this () instead of like this |. If you are able to expand them do so toward the tip of the prong and not too much.

RE: 2 blowouts this weekend

Mission tires, what junk. I had two bad ones on my 05 Raptor I was fortunate enough to notice them before they blew out (pre-trip inspection). They were rounded across the tread not flat like a radial should be. The tread had separated from the carcass and there were even some cords showing though the tread channels. Does anyone know who builds these tires? I am thinking I would like to see if I can get something from them since they only have a few trips on them.
I plan on replacing the other 4 soon.

RE: Sidewinder pin box.

I think this is my shorted answer. I would love to get the Supper Glide but they want too much money for the thing. I heard about this what do you all think or know about this product. I have a Husky slider but just not like getting out to move it and even when you do now it puts the box over the tailgate and damaging that. The main reason is that with my setup as is I can’t make a tight turn even going forward. Do you all think the Sidewinder will work?
Not sure about the sidewinder but i have a superglide i may part with. Send me an email and maybe we can work out a price. I also have the super rails and mounts for a 2005 Chevy 2500 CC

RE: ELECTRICAL PROBLEM

the generator should run at constant speed to maintain frequency. As more electrical load is applied the generator will tend to slow down. The speed governor system should sense this slowing and give it more gas to speed it back up to where it should be. If it's speeding up on its own the governor system may have a problem. Dunno, it's kinda hard to tell what might be going on without knowing all the facts. Good luck with it.
While that is true for a typical generator the genset he is using uses an inverter for the power conversion from the alternator. The output voltage is very stable in both voltage and frequency with the added advantage of the engine speed beint able to adjust over a wide range based on the load.

RE: Hit by car during a break from a MSF class

Wow it is amazing how many people attacked this guy for riding his bike and getting hit by another driver. Yep, it was the bike riders fault for not reading the mind of the idiot in the car. What is wrong with you people? It was the auto drivers fault end of story no partial blame to the bike rider because he was there and riding a large bike.

Looking for a tongue jack for a pup

The style I am looking for uses a clamp to allow you to get the wheel close to the ground before you start cranking (the whole tube moves up and down and doesn't swivel down). Does anyone have a source for that style of jack?

RE: Fifth wheel hitch for a F450?

I'll put my vote in for the airsafe 25K. Click here for the airsafe site. I did have to use the universal rails for my truck as it has a bed mount for the pickup style bed that mounts between the frame and the bed. Plus you have the choice of several different 5th wheels. I have the valley 25k and it is a very nice hitch head with very positive locking and several indicators that everything is hooked correctly.
You get the benifit of air ride which all but cures all trailerings bucking and chucking. It also gives your trailer a break from that possibly harsh suspension (unless you opted for the air ride suspension on the truck). I have a C4500 pulling the 3612ss Raptor and even after i removed a spring from the spring pack it still is a bit harsh but the trailer just seems to float back there now. Prior to the 4500 i pulled the trailer with a Chevy Quad cab short box with a pullrite superglide (loved the auto slide) but there was some bucking and chucking at times. Love the heavier truck for pulling though.

RE: Lug nut wrench

lawaco12
Actually as long as the torque setting is high enough that it doesn't click while loosening the nut it doesn't harm a thing to loosen nuts with it. There are many vehicles that have left hand threads on them.

RE: Lug nut wrench

If the socket breaks then it doesn't matter how long the breaker bar is. I believe the point of this post is to get people to test their method, at home in the safety of their yard, to be sure they are able to do what they intend to do.

RE: Anybody ever bought a new 5er on ebay?

I guess I just don't understand why a local dealer would want to give anyone poor warranty service. What is the difference in your going out of state to buy an RV or someone moving into the area that already has an RV. The local dealer is not going to know your address history so they should have no problem servicing it. I can see them giving a bump in line for service to a person who actually bought from them versus someone that didn't buy from them. But even then they can't be too overt about it or it will cause ill will as well.
If they treat you bad will you buy accessories and supplies from them? Probably not. Will they be in the running the next time you upgrade campers? Probably not, you will just go there and waste their time having them show you all of their units. Then off you go to buy elsewhere.

RE: Wiring 5ver elec/hyd brake actuator???

And how do you like the SensaBrake system ? Do you actually feel any delay ? Did you had any problem with it so far ? Sorry for so many Q.', but look like very interesting unit.
Milos
I like the system and it has performed well. I am using the 1000 psi version and it is a bit strong for the light weight trailer I am using it on. As I said before I had some problems with it locking the trailer tires now and then and attributed it to the RV 7 pin connector. Changing to the 7 pin Round conductor connection helped but did not eliminate all of the wheel locking. I moved to the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 controller that has a electric over hydraulic brake setting which helped some more. I have also had to stop using the tow/haul mode on the Chevy D/A as the downshift engine brake was causing the controller to see more braking than was truly being used (thus locking the wheels). It is a minor thing since the brakes work so well. I believe that this is completely due to the weight of the trailer they are installed on, it probably only weighs 2000 pounds max. If it were heavier then the brakes would not lock so easily.
One thing you have to be sure to get calipers that will handle the full system pressure as the brakes will apply fully at disconnect from the TV. The Kodiak brakes were the ones I found to handle the pressure.
I have not noticed any more delay than one would have with electric brakes maybe even a little less.

RE: Wiring 5ver elec/hyd brake actuator???

What ever you do make sure that you can disconnect power to the sensabrake system. If left plugged in it will leak down (air) after a while and then pump it's self back up. It will do this until the battery runs down. I use the ground, bat(+) and controller (blue) wire directly from the 7 pin connector. Some Bat(+) connections are not completed until a fuse is installed in the TV. I simply unplug the trailer connector when I stop for the night but don't drop the trailer. Any time you unplug the trailer you set the brakes (if air pressure has built up). The brakes will remain set until air pressure is lost over time or if you bleed it down or the unit is plugged back into the TV. As soon as it is plugged in (if there is sufficient air pressure) the brakes will release.
You really don't need to do any fancy wiring if the trailer breaks free it will pull the pigtail from the TV cutting the power and applying the brakes. Once power is lost on the bat(+) connection or the ground the brakes will set if there is air in the tank. Unless your pigtail is really long it will disconnect very quickly.
